Counseling Services
Karen values the practice of evidence-based clinical strategies, but also knows that good therapy is rooted in the relationship with her clients. Therefore, she approaches therapy as a collaborative process that involves compassion, mutual investment, and often, humor. She utilizes a variety and combination of counseling techniques including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Strength-Based Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
During your therapy sessions, Karen’s goal is to offer:
- The undivided attention of a caring professional to help you explore and work through whatever may have you stuck in your life.
- An empathetic ear when you need it
- New insights, perspective, and skills to apply to your situation
- A partner to help you problem solve
- The opportunity to challenge your thoughts and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental environment
What are Karen’s Areas of Specialty?
No therapist can (or should try to) specialize in everything. In focusing on one or a few specific populations, a therapist can develop an expertise in those areas, offering greater insight, tools, and resources to those clients she serves.
Over the years, Karen has worked to develop expertise in the following populations:
- Those struggling with or recovering from substance abuse problems.
- Those struggling with or recovering from depression or anxiety problems.
- Those whose lives have been affected by a loved one’s substance abuse or mental health issues (whether causing negative impact to their own wellbeing, relationships, finances, health, etc).
Your therapy experience will be tailored to your personal needs and goals. This could take the form of individual therapy sessions, couples sessions, immediate or extended family involvement, or group therapy.
